The Joy Resistance Network is a cause-centered coalition of people, businesses and grassroots organizations in Austin, TX. We strategically integrate our three pillars into all we do:

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun(damental Human Rights)

Who says fighting for bodily autonomy shouldn’t feel like the ultimate night out celebrating girlhood?

Girls Just Wanna Have Fundamental Human Rights, but we’re going to have fun fighting for them. This event doubles as a celebration of women’s rights and a creative fundraiser supporting the lifesaving work of Jane’s Due Process.Amid persistent legislative attacks on women and girls’ bodies and reproductive access, let’s practice joyful resistance by turning advocacy into a fun, empowering, and unapologetic night out with your girls! Join us on Friday, September 4, for an evening of sex education, games and prizes, live music, and a market of local, female-owned businesses. Then, relax, learn, and laugh with Infinitely You, a hysterical (yet informative) presentation on the latest wellness toys and spicy products for a healthy, happy sex life—no matter who you are or who you love! Girls, gays, theys, and green-flag guys are all welcome to join the movement. Best of all, 50% of all event proceeds go directly to Jane’s Due Process to fund legal support, 24/7 hotlines, and healthcare navigation for Texas teenagers navigating restrictive.

Learn about unsung LGBTQ+ heroes while sipping handcrafted cocktails and cheering on fabulous local drag, our host Senator Colleen de Forrest and Cupcake! By gathering in celebration, we declare that trans joy is unstoppable, and queer, American history is American history! Plus, 50% of all event proceeds go directly to Transgender Education Network of Texas (TENT) to support statewide legal defense and community advocacy.

Healthcare-aoke is the ultimate evening of joyful resistance and crowdsourced protest, where your favorite karaoke jam directly powers the financially-free and judgement-free, sexual health testing and treatment for >25,000 Texans. When you’re ready to skip the line, you can donate $10 to hop the queue and get on stage! Join us to practice joyful resistance, singing to celebrate and fight for accessible, affordable, gender-affirming healthcare. 50% of all event proceeds will be donated to Kind Clinic to ensure free STI testing, PrEP, and gender-affirming care remain available to every Texan in need.

Documentaries, Drinks & Discussions are free, monthly gatherings for anyone who enjoys learning through film and community, with a glass of wine (or another choice beverage) in hand. This series always begins with a brief ice-breaking activity to stir discussion and get comfortable. After the film, members break into small, rotating discussion groups to discuss, reflect and share.

  1. Citizen (7/14): Learn about the foundation of citizenship, equal protection and due process promised in the 14th Amendment.

  2. Resistance (8/11): Learn about the backlash to the 14th Amendment: the violence of southern Reconstruction and the leaders that refused to give up.

  3. Wait (9/8): Learn about the leaders and advocates of the 1960’s Civil Rights Movement, and the pivotal moments that changed the minds of millions of Americans.

  4. Control (10/13): Learn about the fight for women’s bodily autonomy and how the 14th Amendment paved the road to Roe v Wade.

  5. Love (Tuesday, 10/10): Learn about the expansion of the 14th Amendment to protect marriage equality through the 2015 Supreme Court ruling of Hodges v Obergefell.

  6. Promise (12/8): Learn about the 14th Amendment’s protections for immigrants, as our courts continue to challenge its promise.
